Ellison
Research Labs was formed in 1989 as an electronics research and development
firm to assist inventors and small companies in designing and building
prototype devices. Ellison Research Labs takes a clients ideas and develops
a working model for marketing or manufacture. All rights remain with
the inventor or company requesting the device.
Ellison Research Labs also works with KTEC
(Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation) in assisting inventors in
the development of their products through out the state of Kansas.
Ellison Research Labs designed
and built the prototype and production models of the DAS2000 Driver
Alert System which alerts a driver if they cross the center line or
right road marker of the highway. The device sounds an alarm and disables
cruise control in the event that a driver becomes drowsy or possibly
falling asleep at the wheel. The product is sold by The
Market Place in Topeka, Kansas.
Ellison Research Labs is currently involved with the
design and building of a prototype device in which a robot could be
used in space to assemble a space station using pulsed light as a guideance
beam and electromagnetic joints to hold the station together, reducing
the amount of time that astronauts are exposed to the elements of space.
Ellison Research Labs and the Architecture Engineering
department of the University of Kansas is developing the world's first
'Smart Joint'. The joint is an electromagnetic joint that once power
is applied to the joint, then removed, its structural integrity is maintained.
Should an outside force stress the joint, a microprocessor and Hall
effect sensor will sense the change and automatically apply power to
the joint up to four times its rated strength. Once the stress is removed,
the joint will return to its normal stress point and power is once again
removed. Any stresses on the space station from gravity or acceleration
are automatically compensated for.
We do design for laser and
night vision applications as well. Currently we have several custom
laser light shows throughout the Midwest. We repair small argon, Helium-Cadmium
and Nd-YAG lasers. We also custom design night vision and security systems.
Currently we are located
in Lawrence, Kansas, home to the Jayhawks and the University of Kansas.
